Christmas is just around the corner which means lots of parents will be searching for the hottest new video game for their son or daughter. Sure, an rc car is fun but in the winter you can’t really play with it outdoors. There are lots of options to choose from and many great, wildly different types of games on the market that are sure to appeal to everyone. Here is a quick rundown of some of the hottest titles out there.
New Super Mario Bros Wii for Nintendo Wii
This is guaranteed to be a hot seller this Christmas because of its wide appeal across generations. Nintendo has brought the Mario Bros franchise back to its side-scrolling roots with a retro-looking Mario game that makes use of the powerful new Wii motion sensor technology. Parents will remember the original Mario games and kids will love controlling Mario and Luigi with the Wii controller. If you’re looking for classic video game fun in a brand new package you can’t go wrong with New Super Mario Bros Wii.
Space Invaders Extreme 2 for Nintendo DS
Another retro throwback with a modern twist, the sequel to the successful Space Invaders Extreme which reworked the original and added a great new rhythm concept and fun power ups is more of the same from the first but with everything amplified. The bosses are bigger, the game makes better use of the DS’ dual screens and the fun techno beats are as cool as ever. For only $20 new, I’m sure this game will be discounted for the holiday season and frankly, even $20 is a steal for this fun game.
Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360
Released only a year after the original, the sequel to last year’s popular Left 4 Dead ups the ante in every way. More weapons, more unique zombies, more levels, more maps, more blood, more everything. Game developer Valve has tweaked the original game to near-perfection, making for a intense co-operative game. Left 4 Dead 2 is a game that must be played with friends, either at home or online, to really experience fun of team-work and survival amongst the zombie hordes.
DJ Hero for Various Systems
This one is sure to be flying off the shelves just in time for the Christmas season. DJ Hero takes the idea of Guitar Hero but swaps the ax for a turntable. All your favorite big name hip-hop and electronic music all-stars are included in the unique, mixable soundtrack. You’ll have a blast working in unique breaks, spins and transitions with a huge variety of songs. The ultimate at-home party game this season, DJ Hero is the perfect antidote to a stale party.
