Japan – the world’s weakest, at least in soccer
NETHERLANDS
Goalkeepers: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Michel Vorm (Utrecht), Sander Boschker (Twente)
Defenders: David Mendes da Silva (AZ), Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax), Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), John Heitinga (Everton), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburger SV), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), Edson Braafheid (Bayern Munich), Andre Ooijer (PSV)
Midfielders: Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax), Orlando Engelaar (PSV), Wesley Sneijder (Inter), Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid), Ibrahim Afellay (PSV), Mark van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Otman Bakkal (PSV), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Stijn Schaars (AZ)
Forwards : Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Milan), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Ryan Babel (Liverpool), Eljero Elia (Hamburger SV)
Comment: There are two big questions in front of Van Marwijk – the offense and defense. Stekelenburg is a good keeper that has the physics of Van der Saar, and with time will grow in experience and in skills. The midfield is also looking good, as the Tulips have good defensive options – Nigel De Jong, Bommel, Engelaar. They also have good players to pass the ball – Snejder is the most notable. But the big question comes with the central defense. You cannot win such a championship with poor defense and/or a keeper and Boulahrouz + Mathijsen pair is just not world class. The strikers have not played regularly for their club teams, which could be a setback, but could be a profit too.
DENMARK
Goalkeepers: Thomas Sorensen (Stoke City), Stephan Andersen (Brondby), Kim Christensen (IFK Goteborg), Jesper Christiansen (Copenhagen)
Defenders:
William Kvist (Copenhagen), Lars Jacobsen (Blackburn Rovers), Simon Kjaer (Palermo), Per Kroldrup (Fiorentina), Daniel Agger (Liverpool), Patrick Mtiliga (Malaga), Simon Poulsen (AZ)
Midfielders:
Martin Jorgensen (Aarhus), Christian Poulsen (Juventus), Daniel Jensen (Werder Bremen) Jakob Poulsen (Aarhus), Michael Silberbauer (Utrecht), Thomas Kahlenberg (Wolfsburg), Thomas Enevoldsen (Groningen), Michael Krohn-Dehli (Brondby), Christian Eriksen (Ajax), Mikkel Beckmann (Randers)
Forwards: Jon Dahl Tomasson (Feyenoord), Soren Larsen (Duisburg), Jesper Gronkjaer (Copenhagen), Dennis Rommedahl (Ajax), Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal)
Standby: Anders Moller Christensen (Odense), Leon Jessen (Midtjylland), Mikkel Thygesen (Midtjylland), Morten Rasmussen (Celtic)
Comment: Denmark is by far the favourite for the second place in this group. The team looks pretty convincing in the defensive department. Goalkeepers are always good in the Nordic countries, so no doubts about that position. Agger, Kroldrup and Kjaer should make a good central defensive couple and even if someone gets suspended, there will be a cover. The midfield and offense line is looking vague for Infobettor. Three players from relegation battlers in the not-so-famous Danish SAS Ligaen is just too much!!! Still, the players are sufficient to cope with Ivory Coast and Japan. The offense should be made of 1 light striker (Rommedahl or Gronkjaer), and 1 towering (Bendtner or Dahl Tomasson). Overall the team looks promising mainly because of the defensive strength.
CAMEROON
Goalkeepers: Hamidou Souleymanou (Kayserispor), Idriss Carlos Kameni (Espanyol), Guy Roland Ndy Assembe (Valenciennes), Amour Patrick Tignyemb (Bloemfontein Celtic)
Defenders: Jean Patrick Abouna Ndzana (Les Astres FC de Douala), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham), Sebastien Bassong (Tottenham), Gaetan Bong (Valenciennes), Aurelien Chedjou (Lille), Geremi Njitap (Ankaragucu), Stephane Mbia (Olympique de Marseille), Makadji Boukar (AL Nahdha Club), Nicolas Nkoulou (Monaco), Rigobert Song (Trabzonspur)
Midfielders: Marcel Ndjeng (Augsburg), Enoh Eyong Tarkang (Ajax), Jean II Makoun (Olympique Lyonnais), Georges Mandjeck (Kaiserslautern), Joel Matip (Schalke 04), Patrick Mevoungou (Canon Sportif de Yaounde), Landry Nguemo (Celtic), Alexandre Song (Arsenal)
Forwards: Vincent Aboubakar (Coton Sport FC de Garoua), Eric Choupo-Moting (Nuernberg), Achille Emana (Real Betis), Samuel Eto’o (Inter), Mohamadou Idrissou (Freiburg), Rostand Dorge Kouemaha (Brugge), Achille Webo (Mallorca), Jacques Zoua (Basel)
Comment: Cameroon is one of the most experienced African teams in this tournament. The team has good, if not famoust players in all lines. There is no doubt that the team can pass the ball and move fast, but their attacks will be a simple task for the defense of the European teams. The defensive department of Cameroon is the one to raise doubts the most. M’bia and R. Song are classy players, but if they are not properly assisted by the midfield – there will be troubles.
JAPAN
Goalkeepers: Seigo Narazaki (Nagoya Grampus), Eiji Kawashima (Kawasaki Frontale), Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Jubilo Iwata)
Defenders: Yuji Nakazawa (Yokohama Marinos), Marcus Tulio Tanaka (Nagoya Grampus), Yuichi Komano (Jubilo Iwata), Daiki Iwamasa (Kashima Antlers), Yasuyuki Konno (FC Tokyo), Yuto Nagatomo (FC Tokyo), Atsuto Uchida (Kashima Antlers)
Midfielders: Shunsuke Nakamura (Yokohama Marinos), Yasuhito Endo (Gamba Osaka), Kengo Nakamura (Kawasaki Frontale), Junichi Inamoto (Kawasaki Frontale), Yuki Abe (Urawa Red Diamonds), Makoto Hasebe (Wolfsburg/Germany), Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moscow/Russia), Daisuke Matsui (Grenoble/France)
Forwards: Shinji Okazaki (Shimizu S-Pulse), Keiji Tamada (Nagoya Grampus), Yasuhito Okubo (Vissel Kobe), Kisho Yano (Albirex Niigata), Takayuki Morimoto (Catania/Italy)
Comment: No offense to all the Japanese, but Infobettor does not follow the J-League. Any points at this World Cup in this Group should be a sucess. Japan will not have the home crowd and referees to assist, so the team should rely purely on its quality, which is not much at first glance.

Barbarella [Blu-ray] $15.95 Jane Fonda’s memorable, zero-gravity striptease during the opening credits of this 1968 Roger Vadim movie is the closest the film comes to a liberated marriage of wit and sex. Based on a French comic strip, the story concerns the adventures of a 41st-century woman, who pretty much gets it on with whomever asks. The sci-fi sets were pretty interesting at the time, though they look rather anachronis… |
