Back in Black
You probably started humming the AC/DC song as soon as you read this title, but today we’re not talking heavy metal tunes, we’re talking watches. Black watches.
Black is probably the most common color used in watchmaking. Black looks good with all metals, whether its stainless steel, gold (yellow, rose), or platinum and provides a striking contrast for diamonds or other precious gems or stones used on a watch. Plus the popularity of the black rubber strap on luxury watches. The list for these is so long, but some of the top examples include the Big Bang by Hublot (actually the first company to use a black rubber strap in conjunction with a luxury watch), the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collections by Audemars Piguet, the Aquaracer and Formula 1 collections by TAG Heuer, the T-Touch collection of Tissot watches, and the Riviera collection by Baume Mercier among many, many others.
Since there are too many black watches to discuss, I’ve chosen just a sampling of men’s watches and women’s watches to talk about in this article.
When I say “black watches”, the range is wide, going from all black watches to watches with a black dial, black rubber strap or black leather strap, among other features.
For men’s watches, let’s talk TAG watches and Raymond Weil. Both are great companies that make good-looking and highly functional watches.
TAG Heuer is known for its famous Monaco series which has many styles. The all black TAG men’s Monaco Automatic Chronograph is a great watch. With its square stainless steel case and bezel, black dial, which have black chronograph features and black leather strap, this is a strong, stylish watch. Look it up by using model number CW2111.FC6177.
Raymond Weil is known for producing handsome and elegant yet understated watches that are reasonable. Their men’s Tango Chronograph model # 48811-SR-05200 sells for less than $1,000 yet looks like a million bucks. The rectangular stainless steel face, black dial and subdial and sporty black rubber strap place this watch in the “must have” category.
For the ladies, we’re going to review three watches. The Link by TAG Heuer is not only black it also comes with diamonds. It’s mostly stainless steel (including where it gets the name link from as that describes its bracelet) which makes the contrast of the black dial and diamonds stand out even more. Michele makes watches with women in mind and without a doubt offers some of the most stylish watches out there. The all-black Tahitian ceramic watch, model # MWW12A000006, is an eye-catcher. Selling for less than $1,000 this watch has all the makings of one that you’ll love, if you love black. It’s that simple.
Last one I’m going over today is made by Movado. The black dial and no numbers, has become Movado’s signature look and that’s exactly what you get with its women’s Ono watch, model number 0605815. The all stainless steel jewelry bracelet makes this watch special.
